Amazing new Honorary President

Exciting news! Award-winning National Geographic and Springwatch filmmaker Charlie Hamilton James has become our new Honorary President.
A colleague of Sir David Attenborough no less, he is known by otter lovers worldwide for his gorgeous film “Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story” which was released on Disney +. Charlie’s passion, profile and expertise is sure to help to raise awareness of the work we do at UKWOT and inspire even more people to support the conservation of one of Britain’s most treasured species.
Our founder Dave Webb is delighted to have Charlie on board in this official capacity and described him as living and breathing otters.
“Having been a huge supporter of the charity for many years, and a Patron since 2021, Charlie was the perfect person to approach as our new Honorary President. His love of otters, his strong understanding of the UK Wild Otter Trust, his filmmaking expertise, and the simple fact that he always does his absolute best for otters made it a complete no-brainer. Together, these qualities make him the ideal candidate.”
Charlie says he is honoured to have been offered the position and praised the UK Wild Otter Trust for its contribution to the growth in otter populations.
“In a world of negative conservation stories, otters returning to rivers across the UK is a rare success. It’s thanks to the hard work of so many people, working with both otters and rivers, over the last few decades, that has made that happen. Looking to the future, important work from organisations like UKWOT is going to be absolutely crucial to the continued protection of an animal that so many people love and that is so important to the health of our riverine and coastal ecosystems.”
Join us in welcoming Charlie to the team. 😊
