January is awards season. But you can keep your Golden Globes, these are the real stars of our show. For their outstanding dedication, may we introduce our otter heroes of 2025. People and organisation’s who have worked with UKWOT to support care and conservation of otters. And the award goes to…

Lee Jenkins & South Wales Otter Trust – Individual & Otter Group Award
For pioneering research into Welsh otters
Lee’s work with the South Wales Otter trust to survey and monitor Welsh otters has given us a greater understanding into the habits and needs of otters, important insights which will further support the conservation of this wonderful species. Dave Webb, UKWOT founder says, “His ethos is ‘it’s always about the otters’ and combined with his work on surveying the award was an obvious choice for him.”
Jean Thorp – Lifetime Achievement Award
For dedication, professionalism and excellent otter cub interim care
Jean’s tireless dedication to caring for orphaned and abandoned otter cubs in North Yorkshire means she is literally saving lives. “Her work ethic and knowledge along with her sheer passion to do the very best for otter cubs make it an easy decision to present her with this award. Well deserved!”, says Dave Webb, UKWOT founder.

Robin Lewis – Individual Award
For founding the Severn Otter Group and dedication to research
Robin’s research into otter diet and habitat is critical to support otter recovery in the UK. Our founder Dave Webb has this to say, “Robin’s knowledge of otters is second to none. He took the plunge and founded the Severn Otter Group which was much needed. The more groups the better and UKWOT is pleased to be able to support Robin’s efforts.”
Marcella Perversi – Vet
For continued passion and quality veterinary care.
Marcella and the Westridge Veterinary Practice at Winkleigh have consistently shown support and professionalism in their collaboration with UKWOT and in their support of otters. “This is the first year we have also highlighted a specific vet for an award. Marcella was an obvious choice, she is an excellent, compassionate and deeply caring person”, says Dave Webb, UKWOT founder.
